    Hello folks,
I was exploring under my porch and discovered parts of a rusty old CocaCola sign and this 5 gal CocaCola syrup barrel. I cleaned off parts of the paper label, but when I saw that it was a coke product I stopped, so as to not damage it. On the bottom is written "Oak Grove", which is the name of a nearby train station. I also found another barrel, but that one has no label and seems to have extensive termite damage. Anyone have any idea of the age and rarity of the barrel? Thanks!

My grandfather owned a diner & ice cream soda shop in Springfield , Massachusetts back in the 1960-80's. I was told they received syrups for the soda fountain in these barrels thru the 60's. As for the age of your barrel, I have no idea. I now know what the barrels look like to go with their stories of back in the day! =) Love it!

1930's, wood syrup keg, paper label, 5 gallon. In near mint condition, these are valued at $150 (the more label remaining, the better). Nice Find. I have a 10 gal version, can be seen here:

Thanks for the quick responses. Too bad much of the label is missing! I'll have to see if I can clean it a bit more so I can display it. My house is 113 years old, so it is possible that barrel has been there since the 30s! If I didn't have to army crawl over broken glass and field stone, I would check out what under the other end of the porch.
