This is a card written from aboard the U.S.S. General W.A. Mann. It was written by my grandmother, but I don't know who it was sent to. The inside reads...
"Greetings from the Mann. Penelope and I were both sick the first two days -but I think we will live now.
We should arrive in Guam May 3rd unless something turns up-
It's really a job- they have 104 children aboard- and we are so close together you can hear every noise- will write more later.
Mary"
I have pictures of my dad playing on the beach in Guam, I would estimate him to be between 2 to 4 years old... that would put this card around 1949-1951. Penelope, mentioned in the card is my aunt.
Maybe she was writing to her brother, or her parents. Wish I knew!
You must have read my mind!!! I was going to ask if you knew what type of ship this was! Thanks!
Yeah, I read the article. It's so neat to know that my Grandmother, aunt and my dad were on that ship.
The USS General W. A. Mann AP-112 was a troop transport ship during WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. In 1950 our family was sent to Hawaii on the USS General George Randall AP-115.
