In the 60s and 70s, Seiko produced a wide range of very interesting affordable mechanical chronograph watches. This particular one is unofficially known as the 'Doctor's Watch' because you can utilise the chronograph function to measure heart beats per minute.
The way to do it is to start the stop watch, count 10 pulses from the wrist and then press the stop button immediately on the watch. You will then be able to read the 'pulse per minute' off the outer ring on the dial via the red minute hand.
