Picked up this funky looking light from my neighbor who was going to take it( with a load of other stuff) to the scrap yard.
He was glad to see me have an interest in it, as he said he would get likely less than a quarter for it.
Ima gonna call it my luigi-light for now, in honor of my friendly neighbor!!

I am hoping one of you MCM experts here can give me your input/advice on it, and if it's something you might want, just ask!
I would like to know any info as to age/ designer/ maker/ value, etc..

BTW, the bulbs that came with it are all the newer cflbulbs, energy efficient, and the tri-light functioning switch still works too!!
Might look better with hidden smaller bulbs, but that's just my opinion!
    Thank-you,
    Bern

Thanks for the comment Eye! My thoughts where "50's-60's on this, which is defined well here,
Mid-Century modern is an architectural, interior, product and graphic design that generally describes mid-20th century developments in modern design, architecture and urban development from roughly 1933 to 1965. The term, employed as a style descriptor as early as the mid-1950s, was reaffirmed in 1983 by Cara Greenberg in the title of her book, Mid-Century Modern: Furniture of the 1950s (Random House), celebrating the style that is now recognized by scholars and museums worldwide as a significant design movement.
I have seen versions of this described as Sputnik also, which was launched in '57,
      http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-MID-CENTURY-CHROME-BALL-SPUTNIK-ERA-TABLE-LAMP-PAIR-WOW-/310691135479
, so thats why I am asking if it's MCM or not, but based on my research, it does fall into that broad category.

Have you considered re-searching Charles and Ray Eames' designs? Your "sputnik" lamp has many of the design features of their combined genius.
    13. pickrknows pickrknows, 11 years ago
Thanks for the lead sioux, I did look under Eames, but nothing exact, but in the style of maybe?
    14. auntiesioux, 11 years ago
Glad you check them out. Hopefully you do NOT find anything exactly the same. Many of their pieces were one of a kind. If I remember they were in Southern California. They (Charles and Ray) also were well known for their furniture.

      Thanks again sioux!

When I google 70's lamps there are a lot of these. Seen quite a few at that time in stores.
