    This small dish has no markings. I have porcelain dating from the first half of the 1900's with a similar pattern and finish from Germany and think that this one could be German too, but I really don't know. I was intrigued by its shape. It looks like it could be used to pour sauce from the pointy side.

    Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks a lot, CatherineW. My second guess would have been Japanese too but although the design looks like one I have seen on Japanese pieces, the material "feels" different. But I could be wrong. I any case, you have solved the mystery of the unusual design for me. Once again, thank you for your help:)
      By the way, I paid $1 for it, so I think this is a good price to pay for my curiosity.
