I believe it's painted silk on paper. Possibly a story of young Buddha encountering a layman, who is often portraid with a cat like face but I'm unsure. I have done so much research into the signature and stamps but I'm getting nowhere. If anyone knows anything about this I would be greatful as I'm still not sure of its origin!

Where do you come up with these stories?

This is an episode from the Ming novel Journey to the West. It depicts the main protagonist the Monkey (Sun Wukong) in a battle with the Red Child (Hong hai'er). See how the little kid is spitting fire that engulfs the monkey-face figure?
