This was in my grandfathers gun safe, I received it with some guns after he passed away. I haven't a clue in the world who it belonged to. The blade is 22.5" long.

There is an inscription on the flat part of the blade. This is all I can make out from it because some of it is worn away.
"M___de Mukig ( or Mu_iy) 1868" before the date there are some letters and two of them are underscored twice.

Markings on the sword handle: H 38921, a diamond with a B in the middle, an oval with a crown over a G, an oval with a B in the middle, and two others I can't make out, one looks like an oval with a crown and a 14 or M. Those markings are on the curved part of the sword handle that is a white metal.

Markings on the brass colored part of the handle: a shield with what looks like the number 14 (or an M) inside it, an S and what looks like a 2 and an A.

On the blade near the handle: an oval with a C with what looks like a star above it, another oval with what looks like another C and a mark above it, but it's mostly worn off.

On the scabbard (i guess thats what its called, the holder that attaches to a belt maybe): H 38921 and at the very tip of it there is what looks like a 5.

I know the pictures and info aren't great. I can take better pictures Sunday when my daughter gets back from spending the weekend with a friend.

ANY info would be great! We have no idea what family member it belonged to. Thank you all!

What category do I put this under?? lol

I think I have one of these. I believe it is a rare French bayonet that has a brass handle and that is why it is hard to find. During WW II they would have been collected for their brass handles. And the steel blades melted down for its metal. You're lucky as I don't have a sheath. Very nice piece. I have a 100+ edged weapons some I haven't been able to find any information on. I had to put them away as I am trying to get a man cave set up to display my toys.

Yes, it's definitely French. I found this online, it even has a picture of where the sword and gun it went with was made. Very cool!!
