Hello just trying to identify these purses and necklaces. they are made completely of seeds and straw. I believe they are from the Saint John river area in New Brunswick. Would they be mic maq?
Thanks
These aren't Native American. You'll find items like this commonly in Hawaii, and other Pacific island souvenir shops.
Necklaces made from these seeds were very popular in the 1960's-1970's "hippie culture," and usually referred to as "appleseed" jewelry.
In Hawaii the necklaces are frequently sold as "koa seed" leis, but they are sold so cheaply and are so abundant, that I suspect they are imports from some Asian country, most likely the Philippines. Probably not apple or koa seed (which are larger).
All sorts of souvenir items are made from the seeds: jewelry, little boxes, figures, purses, placemats, etc.
OK thanks, these were in my Grandmothers basement who visited Hawaii in 1961 so that explains it thanks!
