When you read and re-read books as often as I do, occasionally something familiar will jump off the screen at you- as this vase did, while I was perusing the eBay listings recently.

Christiane Sellner's book, Gläserner Jugendstil aus Bayern (Art Nouveau Glass in Bavaria) shows a comprehensive series of service items (punch bowls, cups, pitchers, vases, tumble-ups, sugar bowls, etc) in crystal with cut stars and rays, the latter of which are executed over pads of green glass. These are documented in the inventory books of the Kristallglasfabrik Wilhelm Steigerwald at Regenhütte, and the vase shown here has inventory number 5, as shown in the last photo. The vase is just under 7" tall, and the blank is top notch quality.

The covered punch bowl shown in the third photo is from a private Regenhütte collection, according to the author, and the designer is likely Rudolf Czerny. It is unclear whether Czerny designed only the punch bowl, or the entire series. This series of items was executed between 1901 and 1906.

Very interesting. I enjoy learning new things about glass. Thanks for sharing this information. Is the star portion engraved?

It's all wheel cut, Deb - both the stars and the green rays. The green portion is cut pretty deep, too. It's a fairly heavy piece, not as thick as, say, Moser, but not thin by any means.
