I bought this model at an antique shop for $5. It was attached to a crudely made lamp base. When I detached the model I found a label on the bottom of the ship stand that indicates the model was made by Vernon C. Brower, Pownal, ME. The model measures about 15" overall length and about 10" high. It is made of wood, but something denser than balsa. The rigging needs to be redone. I am a ship modeller so rerigging should not be a problem. I would like to know more about Vernon Brower who built this model and approximately when it was built. I have found a tug boat and fishing trawler that Brower also made online for sale. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Vernon Brower might still be around at age 89. I think the models show online are from estate sales and not likely listed by him. But I will keep trying to reach him, or someone who might know of him and his ship modeling talents.

      Hello Sturb_Ric,

I am actually the great grandson of Mr. Brower. Sadly he has passed away, in the late 90's if I recall, and his boat making skills are left only with my grandmother and faint memories with my mother.

I came across this site by accident while searching for tax and land information. Unfortunately I was never able to learn more about him, however, your post has prompted me to get in touch with the family and compile information about his shop and small business. It might take me some time to get this information together, but if you are interested I would be happy to email you the final product once it's finished. I too would like to know more about him.

      Regards,
      Brandon R. Beckwith

Brandon, I would very much like to see more info about your great grandfather, especially any info about other boat models he produced.
