I do not collect dolls nor have I ever played with dolls. I just wanted that out there before we went on,lol
This doll is 28 in long and has a composition type head with cloth body.
Now you know everything I know about the doll.
I do know there are some knowledgeable collectors here so I'm hoping I can get help on this one.
beautiful!!!
A real cutie!
Manikin will know!
Come in, Mani!
Must be a doll with an all cloth body, but we'll have to wait for morning. I think she's done for the night.
I could be totally wrong I'm no doll expert :-)
Az I know it is your childhood doll fess up :-)
She what is referred to as a bed doll or boudoir doll. And that is where they went on a bed for decoration. These range in quality and makers from faces of fine hand painted silk made in France ,to felt by Lenci (Italy) , a few with glass eyes most common found are like your's made of composition with painted eyes and heavy make up and Mohair wigs . . Several companies made these from USA also! A very desirable one was made as a smoking boudoir doll and had a hole in mouth for cigarette. Their bodies vary in quality from the very long cloth legs with built in high heel shoes to ones dressed in lavish clothes . Quality and the more art deco the look all factor in along with rarity . Popular in 1920's to end of 40's by 195o's had declined by then making ones with ones made with plastic arms and legs . Your doll would be one of the more common to find however she is in original clothes and her composition has not cracked much some lower quality ones did not hold up well but yours is a fine example and I love her shoes too :-) Yours has less make up on eyes some have real eyelashes ,most have heavy painted eyelashes and eye shadow . Most have legs much to long for body and those are desired also .
She would be called a " Composition boudoir Doll. Painted eye all original if one was to describe her and name her . Nice Collectible doll :-) Love her .
I was sleeping and heard a few friends calling :-) Hopefully my eyes are clear enough to type . If you do a google search on Boudoir dolls you will see what I mean that all are not created equal and there are so many faces on these girls , You should be able to see one similar to your's . Not sure what your's arms are made of I can't see them and her legs do not look as long as the early one's . These dolls can make a book just about them because of all the differences and countries produced in . Goodnight guys , see you in morning .
Smoking doll, made me think of this one.

Bro that is a smoking Boudoir doll in that link . You remembered her . Gee I love that photo too ! She appears to be made with felt face though and would be a expensive one to buy today . Lenci made one like the one in link and a few other companies . :-))))))))
That is a spectacular image & your knowledge of dolls always impresses me! There's always something to learn on CW, hopefully I'll recognize a Boudoir doll if I ever see one.
Thank you so much Manikin. That is an incredible amount of info. The arms are cloth but the hand and part of the arm is composition, 2-1/2 in total. The legs are way too long, 15 inches. UH.. can a girls have legs that are too long? lol
I have had this one and a few more packed away forever, probably because I didn't know anything about them or know who would. I'm sure Glad I found the CW and great people like you.
Thanks for all the Loves everyone!
