This belonged to a friend of mine who would have turned 100 this month. He used to use it to cut sugar cane in the fields, and that is was his uncles before it was his. It is called a bill. I can find no manufacturing marks on it. I am wondering how old it is. And how long the handle for it was.
These haven't been used for many, many years. I've been in the West Indies & "Wayward" Islands for 42 yrs & may have seen 1 or 2 of this style & 1 was in a museum I believe. Never seen this style in stores & I've bought quite a few "cutlasses" in Jamaica. The Eng. & ex-Eng. islands are the only places to buy good working cutlasses (Eng. made) in my experience. I just might poste my Jamaican cutlass as it is a nasty piece of work & I have to guard it from the gardener as I see a glint in his eye when he asks to use mine.
