I could use some help placing the date. The pattern is WWI, but the eagle and buttons are brass instead of bronze. The Eagle appears to be a very early pattern, but has no mark. The color is light tan. The maker is Harding Army and Navy supply. My guess is 1920s or 30s, but I would love to hear what people think.
The hat is in very good shape, with the liner in tact. The leather on the strap is cracked and there is pitting on the brim. The crown and cover are in excellent shape, but heavily stained. I would appreciate suggestions on cleaning as the cover is not detachable and I am not used to working with hats quite this old. Would cleaning hurt the value?
