I found this item at a thrift store about two years ago. At the time I 'dry dusted' it & hung it in my hallway. I recently decided that it needed at least a cool water rinsing off and it was only then that I found the beautiful opalescent glass. It seems that it had been painted with red crafting glass paint which just rinsed away & I felt I'd discovered a whole new treasure!
I know nothing about it – or even what it is for. The etching seems contemporary with leafy vines and small stars, but the copper fixtures, hanger, and welds, seem to be older. There isn't any kind of mark or stamp on it and there is a nut threaded on to the back that I don't think is original. I only presume that it hangs as shown here (facing downward), because of the hanger on the back.
What really struck me the most is the glass. While clear, it is very colorful and this part is quite heavy. It doesn't seem to have a way to be wired either so I am STUMPED!
I would like to know if this is something of value, but would also like to know anything about it: is it a decorative wall sconce, and is this something older or perhaps a more recent replica? Thanks in advance for any info on this neat piece!
I have the same pair of sconces,,
