I purchased this 1961 Gulf Service Station restroom tin key rack from the same collector who sold me the reproduction Gulf sign. He told me that it belonged to his friend who used to own a Gulf station in Hamilton, New York, the town where I attend university. The station was closed and abandoned in the seventies and still stands next to the town liquor store. I should be able to find some replacement hooks to hang the keys from.
It's cool to have it complete, I'm in Vegas right now and a little late to the game today, but this is a very neat item to have.
You cannot see it in the photographs, but the name of man who owned the Gulf station is stamped on the back of the keys. It was some good luck that I found the keys - the previous owner and I had to search through about thirty cardboard boxes to find them - because I expect the sign would have looked awkward without them.
