Here are some pictures of my grandparents' (possibly great grandparents) barn. In the black and white picture is my mom as a little girl, playing with the chickens. Her older brothers are in the background. The barn has completely built by hand. The lower walls are made of flat, field stone, all placed perfectly. All of the beams were cut by hand. There's another picture of how it looks today. The majority of it was torn down many years ago when it became unstable. I remember playing in that barn (before it was torn down) as a little kid. Talk about a great place to play. My mom has had several people come to look at the barn when she was thinking about having the rest of it torn down. They were all coming to look at those huge beams. She was told that if they were made out of wormy chestnut that she'd be sitting on a small fortune. Unfortunately, they're not. She's decided not to tear it down just yet now.
Oh I just love the one with her and the chickens ! That is a treasure and would make for a great picture . Thanks for sharing . It made me smile and remember my days on farm ! :-))
Thanks for the love, folks! Yeah, Manikin, I miss "back home." I started working on the potato farms up there when I was 9 years old, picking potatoes by hand and putting them in bushel baskets, making 10 cents per bushel. Apparently child labor laws didn't apply back then. :-)
No we worked and did not complain and I actually am glad we did and did not sit in front of video games . I have great memories of the farming . I really loved the chickens and still want one buy live in city now . That photo just struck me as a priceless picture . I have one posted of my Grandmother as a young girl with the ducks or geese I will find that post . To show you :-)
Just love the expression on her vase...and the inside photos of that building, those lovely beams and stone work!...:-)

She's 77 now and still pretty spry. Must've been all the hard farm work. She and my oldest sister just left this morning after visiting with us for a couple days.

I think farm work and keeping active will keep you spry and young jomima :-)
inky that put a smile on my face or( vase) but not for your beautiful collection of vases it would not have been such a appropriate typo for you :-) xoxo
