When my brother and I were kids, we collected militaria. My dad bought a box of WWII stuff that belong to a man who had been in the Army Air Corp. Included in the box was this plastic (?) round cap (?). I thought it was cool because of the detail in the gold eagle. I still have it today, and wondered if anyone knew what it is. Thanks in advance for helping me solve the mystery of the long ago "pick". By the way, the dimension is approximately 2 3/4 in diameter.

Kevin and CV Beer, this would have been the center cap on the yoke wheel in aircraft of that vintage, especially non-military and maybe even the military version. I will research and try to find more.........

turns out that they built over 18,000 B24's all had 'Yoke' controls but I can't find a pic showing these......they also built over 2,000 PBY's they also had 'yoke controls' and in some pics I can see a button but the Ford part is a puzzle one can only assume that Ford actually built the controls system,, during the war every body built what they could and shared pieces..........I really thhink it's from PBY.....

I recently joined the commemorative air force and I know exactly what this cap is.It is true that ford built aircraft with consolidated vultee. There are 2 other types of caps that do not have ford on them. This cap came from a B-24 Liberator.I would like to ask If there is some way to contact you in regards to a possible use for this cap.The CAF B-24 (one of 2)that is flying today is in need of a yoke cap. If you are interested in seeing the B-24 and the only flying B-29 in the world I would be happy to tour you through them. The cap would complete a restoration of this plane!!

Henry, was so glad to read your post, very insightful, how much is a cap like that worth?

I just joined this group and I do not know if old posts are ever looked at again. I just found the exact same Vultee cap in an old dresser from my father who was in WWII. This is something I can see him picking up if had the chance during the war. I can not seem to find out how much this item might be worth. I hesitate to put it up on ebay. Any ideas?! Thanks
