This is a salt-glazed 1,5 L beer stein made by Albert Jacob Thewalt of Höhr (Höhr-Grenhausen since 1936), Germany. Thewalt closed their salt-glazed kiln in 1910 so your stein dates from 1894-1910. That upside down "V" is actually the initals of the firm, "A" with the "j" and "T" hidden in the "A." The "H" is for the town. The German text is: “Ein fröhlich Herz heilt allen Schmerz.” (A happy heart cures all pain.)
