It looks like this painter - the signature is the same
C. Lewis Perez was an artist of extraordinary talent who is best known for landscape paintings featuring three dimensional or raised trees, bushes and leaves. Perez, whose real name was Chester Lewis (1923-2010), worked also under the trade names "Louis Perez," "Lewis Perez" and often simply "Perez" throughout the 1970's, 80's and 90's until his unofficial retirement from painting around year 2000.
Thanks Aghcollect and Moonstonelover21!! Aghcollect thanks so much for the info!!!
You are welcome - it is indeed a C. Lewis Perez painting.

Hi catteann......You have some really nice paintings and pottery. I love collecting everything too, including mid century paintings and old prints, but it sure is hard on the wall space. A lot of them I can't even hang because they tend to be rather large. I have to store them or put them on rotation. I keep hoping they will create a painting category here on CW. Strange they don't have one. As far as signatures, I go crazy trying to decipher or ID the artists, but it's always fun. -Mike-
This Perez I found back in Late August, with cold temperatures its hard to find much here in Indy:( I buy from farm auctions & estate sales mostly. Thanks Mike
Manikin, Thanks & Happy Holidays!
Gorgeous painting! Merry Christmas!!!
mikkoChristmas11, thanks for the love!
I also found thie picture and two smaller sinular pictures by Perez. Does anyone know if he painted multiples of the same picture? Are these reprints? Thanks Chris
If it has the three-dimensional trees, most likely its not a reprint. Many of his works have the three-dimensional trade mark trees
I became collecting art by Perez in the 80's. I have one large, two medium size and 4 small paintings,2 of with are black and white paintings of trees. I have always loved them. I'm so glad to finally know what Mr. Perez full name is and to find out some information about him.
??
There is also (???) an AMELITA PEREZ that painting kinda looks very similar too, so not sure which Perez myself?? ( Amelita or Amelite for spelling )??

So HOW do we tell?
Well here is some Info on How you can tell a C. Lewis Perez Painting...in which you might have to remove the frame. Please Read:

Is this one the same as yours, but reverse? Still does not list which Perez on it??

I have such a hard time with Art.....
:-(
It is hard to identify artist for me also. I have many beautiful studio art pottery pieces that I cannot find info on. With this Perez, there is no cracking in the paint & it has the white margin. I am going to put it on consignment at a gallery soon. As for my Boris Chezars I will be keeping those.
LOL....
Hope you all the luck, you must have the right Perez
Just think IF we did not have the internet to help us with collecting....would be even tougher LOL
Perez was my father. Sometimes his paintings and prints were signed C. Lewis Perez or simply Perez. I remember him working this technique over and over again until he got it right. When he first started creating this technique, the compound wasn't working right and it would crack. He kept trying different compounds until he got it right. He was ecstatic when after the cure time, the texture was finally okay. No one has been able to recreate his secret compound to date...and I was right there as he worked it. Daddy was a pharmacist who had an extraordinary talent for painting anything he saw and making it look so lifelike. He had natural talent and never had a painting lesson in his life. After retiring as a pharmacist, he began his second career as an artist. Some of his paintings he sold in print form. I especially loved one he did of Colin Powell. I told him he should do one of Obama alone and one of Obama, Michelle and kids and simply send it to them, but he died before being able to get to it. His portraits were so much like the person he was painting, it was amazing. I wish I had a way to upload a copy. Another striking print was of Nelson Mandela and Wendy. RIP daddy--1923-2010.
I was taken by his paintings back in the 70's and 80's. I own 5 of Perez's paintings including the triptych displayed at the bottom the website

I know they are all original but not sure if he also painted additional copies similar to his original paintings for sale. Another way you can tell it is an original Perez is he always painted 3 birds somewhere in each of his painting.
Have the original receipts for the purchases but not sure what their value is now. I know I like them and always get comments on they when guests visit the house.
I also have an original C. Lewis Perez. I love it! Unfortunately I had to have it repaired from a tear (my fault) but because of the textured design the flaw isn't noticeable unless you are just right upon the painting. What's interesting is when searching images for C. Lewis Perez I saw another painting that was very similar to mine, the tree had 3 sections, whereas mine has 2, and where there was more shrubbery toward the lower right my painting has a cabin with some shrubbery and of course a lake however the 3 birds are in the exact same place on both paintings. I was looking to see if I could repurchase my painting but I don't think that is possible.
