This is a very unusual piece of jewelry from India depicting a silver tiger in the jungle. Although I have some jewelry made of tiger claw in my hands both in silver and in gold I have never seen such a strange single copy.
Put in silver decorated with a small walking tiger on it as seen in phot0 4. The dimensions are 3 x 3.5 cm and the weight is 13 gr.
I can not find any marks but tested silver.
Given the hinge and the C-clasp I date it the 19th century. But perhaps even older.
I would like to hear from you what you think of this dating and please an answer if you have seen such a jewel made of tiger nail before? I appreciate your vision!
It is unusual I love it:)

I leased a penthouse just outside of Montego Bay in the 80's from an Eng. woman who had hurt her back & couldn't make the climb. Her father had been a big game hunter & the penthouse was loaded with game trophies from India & Afrika. One was a Bengal tiger that was just over 7 ft from tip of tail to chin. Damned, I wanted a claw out of that thing but kept self control. She had papers on all these trophies & wanted me to buy them but I knew nothing about their values. Another example of hind-sight not being up-to -date.
blunderbuss2 what an interesting story and what a missed change. This story shows how valuable shearing knowledge is. Thanks for your comment and loving.

A truly exquisite piece.I have not seen anything made with tiger claw before. Although hunting tigers is a sport from a bygone era, I would imagine this piece would fetch a high price.
Cheers Rose
