** Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (August 2 1834 - October 4, 1904) was a French sculptor who is best known for designing Liberty Enlightening the World, better known as the Statue of Liberty. - Originally planned to be given to the United States by the people of France in 1876, Lady Liberty was not completed and presented until 1885. - This stamp was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the presentation.
