This is a personal family postcard sent from my grandmother to my grandfather (they resided in Mannheim Germany) in 1938. - Addressed to my grandfather (Family of), the card was written to my mother who would have been 8 years old at the time.
Topic: VI. REICHSTAGUNG DER AUSLANDSDEUTSCHEN
(6th Nazi Congress Foreign Organization- Stuttgart Aug. 26-Sept. 4, 1938)
The front bears the words "O Heilig Herz Der Volker, O Vaterland"
(O Sacred Heart of the People, O Fatherland)
Attributed to Friedrich Holderlin - a major German lyric poet commonly associated with "Romanticism" - (Holderin is one of the poets whom the Nazis pay lip service to while having little real use for him)
PRINTER: LEHNER / Tubingen (lower right corner)
REVERSE: handwritten across the top (Good card cancel!) with reference to the postmark which my grandfather was collecting then.
DESCRIPTION: Joh. (Johann) Chr. (Christian) Friedrich Holderlin

geboren (born) 1770 zu Laffen am Neckar (Duchy of Wurtemberg)

MESSAGE: Difficult to decipher my grandmothers handwriting but the message is to this effect: "Dear Eveline, Today everything is once again thoroughly rainy. Too bad, Hess had a very good speech. Otherwise everything is (buttery)? (The last line is confusing, I believe it mentions a package was to arrive later in the week)" "Sincerely, Carola" - sent to my grandfather (name blotted) (Familia - Family of) in Mannheim.
