austrohung…

I purchased this glass in Miami, where I was living in 2003 and 2004, then brought it to Madrid via Dublin (where I stayed for three months) when I came back home in 2004. I think I got it at a second hand store in West Dixie Highway (probably at the mall by NE147 street… at least I remember it was close to Southern Memorial Park) or at a small shop somewhere just off north Miami Shores… I wish I could remember… I used to walk all around the Miami area, no matter how posh or trash (and I sure was the only walker, you can bet on it!) and found a lot of interesting little stores.
I didn’t know what this glass was, but I loved the shape and the silver band. I do remember I got it for 50 cents!
The first time I found out about Dorothy Thorpe was here at CW as some of you posted one of her designs here, and that’s when I thought of my Miami champagne glass (well, it seems now it’s a compote), kept in storage under my bed for years….
By the way, the portrait of Dorothy Thorpe was taken by Max Munn Autrey in 1938.
This is stunning austro!!
I'd use it as a snack dish/appetizer/olive dish at parties. Fancy! Watch shining it up, you can peel off the silver.
Love that portrait of Dottie!
Thanks Amber! I think I will leave it as it is. There's something about the passing of time that makes objects more beautiful...
And thanks Sean and vet too for your loves and comments!
Thanks for loving it, Dr Fluffy!!!
