The maker is J.W. Ridgeway - that will give you a good start

Here is what I found...
This is a magnificently colored serving piece from a dessert / tea service made by John and William Ridgway; circa 1820. The pattern is a riot of flowers and leaves; the cobalt and the gilding are thrown in there to push it right over the top. It measures 9.75" by just over 10.5" and is in excellent condition. This pattern, #1289, is shown on page 63 in Geoffrey Godden's "Ridgway Porcelains".
Jono - that is great!! I did see that the last time they used the backstamp was around 1840 so i knew you had something worth researching further. It is very beautiful and definitely worth saving, especially it being a family heirloom.
