In 1963 André Ricard designed the Stabilo candle. A design with a wider and more stable base that needs no candleholder to stand straight. He designed it for the Spanish design brand ARCE, for which he designed a sort of different items, being these candles the first collaboration of Ricard with the firm:. Amonhst other, he designed a bottle opener, the famous ice-tongs, a salt shaker and a pencil sharpener. The original candes cme in a sort of different bright colours. (see pic No. 4)
In 2003 for its Designers collection the Catalan candles company Cerabella decided to reissue the candle, but they did in an oversized version (40 cm). This time the candles were made in three colours closer to the wax’s real color (cream, light moss green, light orange-ish earth). I have just got the two first colours. They also have Ricard's signature (see pic no.3)
Clever, elegant and strangely beautiful. The signature adds another dimension to the translucency of the wax. Wax sculpture.
beautiful:)!
