The images displayed above are of an esquisitely craved William and Mary chair. I recently acquired this chair in the Oranges. While in route to one of my usual picking locations.
I believe this to be a rare early 18th century William and Mary high back side chair. It has a tall back that is esquisitely carved with a crown atop, barley twist, terminate in small turned finials and are flanked by foliage-carved scrolls. The front legs are cabriole with shell-carved knees and terminate in esquisitely carved deer feet. The legs are braced with an H shape. The patina is excellent, show evidence of age.
I welcome any and all information pertaining to this item.
