An exceptional silver and glass card box by the English firm of Grey & Company, displaying four face cards representing each suit in a deck of cards beneath glass panels. The footed case opens with a hinged lid, and holds two decks of miniature cards in its sectioned, red leather-lined interior. Cards were perhaps the most popular pastime of the affluent classes for over two centuries, and this lovely case would have been a glamorous addition to any well-appointed drawing room. Excellent condition.
Hallmarked London, 1898
2 ¼” wide x 2 ¼” deep x 4” high
