Decca records are the most sought after , of all labels from the " Golden Age " This is for a good reason, they all are high quality vinyl, the Mastering of the records was the best in the time, and the sound is open, natural and dynamic, and bass is going deeper then most other labels at that time, then there was the artists that Decca employed, who also where among the best, the likes of Ansermet, Argenta, Ricci, Kubelik, Kertesz, Solti,Gamba,Campoli,Britten, Maazel and the list goes on.
At this point i will mention that the London CS label is same as SXL, so i go for the London´s ecquilant in SXL 2000´series, and Decca SXL 6000 series for the collection.
I know many will dispute this statement, but to my knowledge the CS & SXL series where made on the same plant in England and covers made in the USA, and i can deliver the evidence for that claim in the next show&tell add in short.
1 st Record:
SXL 2059, Kubelik, VPO, Brahms Symp. no. 2, 1 ED.This is a classic 1 st Decca record, with great music, open , natural, and warm tubey sound, which is the hallmark of the first Decca´s( or London´s )
2 nd Record:
SXL 6036, Borodin Quatet, Borodin & Shostakovich Quartets, this is a factorysample with dokument included, i have made seperat listing for this item, as it proves the truth about the Decca-London enigma debate.
This is a very fine example of what SXL 6000 series records can do, the sound is so realistic, that you feel you are in the hall where this event was taped, a true timecapsule, you see and hear the open space of the room, the instruments stand out clear and homognes, strings go frightenly deep and displays the full weight and body af these instruments, this is how it should sound, i am in awe of the work done by Decca on this record, a must have for any record collector and audiophile lover.
3 rd Record
SXL 6044, Kertesz,LSO, Dvorak Symp. 8, this one is from the famous Kertesz Dvorak series, where he made all Dvoraks symponys, and the result is probely one of the best conducts of this music, they all have a open warm, rytmic, dynamic sound, that makes go to an other place you sence pictures and emotion from Bohemias forests, the involvement of this recording is stunning, it more a feeling, is possible to demand more ?
4 th Record:
SXL 6085, Lorin Maazel, VPO, Tchaikovsky symp no. 5,this record is also about emotion, it has the sound like the SXL 6044 with Kertesz,
Lorin Maazel also can create pictures and emotion in the music, This is true for his total Work on Tchaikovsky and Sibelius, and i really enjoy all his records
