I found this trunk at a thrift store. I know nothing about it but would like help identifying any information about it. It appears to be in original condition (I'm not sure, since I know nothing about antiques). It seems to be covered in some type of tin with wooden accents and metal decorative pieces. Tiny little metal wheels on the bottom. 30l x 17w x 20h

Please, someone help me with information on this trunk! So curious to know what it's story is. Any sites I can go to explore? I know nothing about antiques.

You have a circa 1900 -- 1920's hump back trunk. Nice little tin covered trunk. By the turn of the century these trunks were entirely by machines by many factories who never labeled their trunks. The era of the craftsman hand made type trunks was fast coming to a close. Less rivets -- thinner slats and stamped metal pieces are indicative of this time period. Still a nice trunk for its time. Thanks for the post!

I really think this may have been restored. Or perhaps it was simply stored properly in one place. It does look almost brand new. Could it be?

Thank you for the information! I appreciate it! Do you think it is in it's original condition? It does look like it has been very well taken care of or maybe restored?

The only way to tell if has been repainted is to look closely at the wood slats to see if there is any paint accidentally brushed up against it. Looks like the front has had gold paint put on the slat clamps and latches.

The wood is not decorative but part of the structure to give the box strength. how about the inside? lining? any lithographs? these were typical decorations in trunks, some lavish or bucolic or sentimental.

Unfortunately the inside was recovered with what appears to be 1970's era contact paper. They did a very nice job of covering the entire inside of the trunk, but I would have loved to have seen what was underneath. Since it is that 70's contact paper, it is stuck on there very well!! I remember my grandmother putting that stuff on everything back then and I think it was made with superglue! LOL! It won't budge! It doesn't appear to have any extra paint on any of the wooden slats. Maybe they just painted the metal accents but they did a very good job on that too...no signs of extra paint there either.
