This amazing zoomorphic vase was bought in Alassio, Italy, in 1979 (the same year of the gazelle mondrianesque vase). Unfortunately it isn't signed and all you can see on the base is Made in Italy and a four digits number...

Just like it happened to the Gazelle vase, the decoration we can see on it reminds us of the avantgarde painting of the 20th Century: Roberto Matta or the Spanish Benjamín Palencia. The shape also can be compared to that of the work of sculptors such as Henry Moore or Alberto Sánchez , a Spanish artist from the 30s (here's a link to his work... don't miss it, it's truly amazing!!!:

by the way, I am thinkng of vetraio now, I'm pretty sure he'll enjoy this link).

One of the most amazing things about this vase is that the decoration seems to have been done by a great artist... it's excellently well composed, the drawing is so precise... there's no doubt it's a great work!

      Fantastic surrealist form.
The meeting of two forms find balance.
      The decoration is wonderfully calligraphic.
      Fabulous!
      Carlos' 'eye' is keen!

I did enjoy that Sánchez link too, Alex.

Thanks fledermaus! These Italian pottery from the 50s were something absolutely innovative, and as I mention in the post, they took a lot from the art of their time. I am glad you like it!!!

      hi austro
may i ask if you have allready asked walter del pellegrino for help?
he's the man for italian pottery! (at least as far as i know)
he runs a forum and it might be worth asking him:
