Campanula, which is Latin for "little bell", is a Genus of flowers with the common name "Bell Flower". The technique used by Loetz to created the stenciled florals in the body of the vase was given patent number P 2156 in 1936. The patent describes "...a completely new technique in making the glass, in which the decoration was transferred to the glass interior."* This vase is marked with the square "Made in Czecho-Slovakia" mark used by Loetz in the mid to late 1930s.
According to Loetz Bohemian Glass 1880-1940, most of the preserved Campanula glass pieces are colorless; the variation with a pink inner casing is rare. I was, therefore, shocked and delighted to find this one at a local antiques show.
