this is a large hand carved coffee table that i know nothing about.the carved elephants are the legs for it.can anyone tell me anything about this table??origin, collectability, hows rare type of wood etc?anything?the table top is about 6 inches thick.and approx. 4 ft by 2ft top covered with glass.
Very unique ! The animals look like one's I got from Africa and I am thinking they put them all in table . Are they set in lucite ? I would say homemade very decorative table ! Love it ! Just a guess :-)
There are some truly fine Haitian artist & it is their style to paint & sculpture animals (mostly African) that do live in their country. This has the look of one of their best & the wood looks like it may be Lignum Vitae which their better works are done in. Sans the glass, is the wood extremely heavy & hard as hell? This is extremely well done, especially using the different colours of the grain for highlighting the eyes etc.. You have a beautiful piece by the pics, even with the glass glare.
can anyone else add to this?i cannot even find where to begin to look for information.im sure its a one of a kind ,would love to find origin and any history????please ask around, any info appreciated
Philippine Islands, 1970's. Just outside the main gate of Clark A.F.B.
But that was along tome ago! Great pieces, Love its!
The were hand carved on the spot or perhaps a small woodshop. Google: vintage filipino wood carvings, then click images. I found your elephant, I'm sure the rest are some where amongst! Nice collection! =)
