This is a bone or ivory base with a turned column and a brass piece on top. It stands 2.75" (7cm) high. The base diameter is 1.25" (3cm). The brass piece at the top has 3 holes and underneath each hole the numbers 789. On the reverse the holes lead into grooves which go to the top. Under the numbers it reads M11. Beside that are 3 letters which appear to be N ? R but are rather faded. Under that reads 39 CHEAPSIDE LONDON.
This was found in my mother's effects and I had no opportunity to ask her what it was for or how she acquired it.
I'm guessing a base for a mirror or lighting. 2 more pictures would help. Cool piece!
