My work involves me carrying out house clearances for a local furniture charity. I carried one out recently after a berevment, The family were unable to keep the very large doll collection in the home. I was requested to dispose of the collection. I cannot bring myself to do anything other than store them, They are not to mywifes taste or my taste but I know someone Loved them to have the collection there is.
The pictures are only a few of the dolls, they are various sizes, most seem to have porcelin faces, forearms and heads, the body is soft to touch. some have labels & names, they have obviously been out of the boxes & on display for many years, along with 40-50 display dolls there is also 2 large bags of mainly undressed porcelin dolls, approx 30!
How do I know if any of these are collectable?
These newer porcelain dolls were mass produced mostly in 1980's and 1990's . They varied in price by doll artist in price at the time . Some were not cheap to buy others were . The market has been flooded with these dolls for past few years and very few have retained much value . You may have a couple that I don't see that are by artists that have a following still. These were meant for adult collectors and play dolls , they were bought when one could not afford a true antique bisque doll . They used many words and gimmicks to lead people to think this were going to increase in value . Some people bought them because they just liked cute dolls . They were kept in boxes and not displayed always intended to retain value that way . However as I said these dolls do not sell well in today's market and IF one would sell they want them mint in box and still you may only get a few dollars . I would suggest taking time to look at names of makers or artist on each doll and do a completed sale search on like ebay . The ones without clothes and if they are similar to ones you posted have nearly no value and I would sell at yard sale or flea market . Your right though someone did love them as she collected them and they probably made her smile when she saw them , so they served a purpose to prior owner . Good luck
Thanks Manikin, Its not a collection I wanted but circumstances landed me with them. its taken me so long to pack them away I don't think I will be opening them boxes again for some time.
Your welcome :-)
