Hi Mike They are called " American Girls By Pleasant company , Josefina is from Mexico and her books and things you can buy for her tell of her life and adventures . Each girl named below comes with books about them . You can still buy her clothes on like ebay . She has white body so she is not one of the very early ones made . Very nice !
Introduced in 1986, the historical characters give girls an engaging glimpse into important times in America's past. Each character's story is told in a series of compelling books, focusing on such themes as family, school, holiday, birthday, summer, and winter adventures. Gentle life lessons throughout the stories remind girls of such lasting values as the importance of family and friends, compassion, responsibility, and forgiveness. Each book concludes with a nonfiction picture essay, "A Peek into the Past," that further explores the character's historical period. Our historical characters currently include:
Kaya®, an adventurous Nez Perce girl growing up in 1764, before America became a country;
Caroline®, a brave girl who helps her family safely navigate the War of 1812;
Josefina®, a girl living in colonial New Mexico in 1824 during the opening of the Santa Fe Trail;
Marie-Grace™ and Cécile™, two girls reaching across boundaries to form a friendship in New Orleans in 1853;
Addy®, a courageous girl from 1864, determined to be free during the Civil War;
Rebecca®, a lively girl with dramatic flair growing up in New York City in 1914;
Kit®, a clever, resourceful girl growing up in 1934 during America’s Great Depression;
Molly®, a patriotic girl growing up on the home front in 1944 while the world is at war;
Julie®, a fun-loving girl growing up in San Francisco during the seventies;
To bring the stories to life, skilled designers have created a beautifully crafted 18-inch doll for each character, along with historically accurate clothing and accessories evoking her world and adventures. By reading the stories and playing with the dolls, girls can learn how growing up has changed—and how it has stayed the same—throughout American history.
You can read more here . Your doll is collectible , The company was taken over in about 2005 by Mattel .

Hi Manikin I should have taken off the dress but the body in not white it looks more like the skin color.
Is it tan ? I always say dolls need to be nude to Id exact in your case color of body helps date her . Look at her side see if she has a tag sewn into seam in body .
Oh and also look at inside seam of clothes to see if tagged too :-)
And I need correct she lived in New Mexico in her story book .

is there a way to send you more photos? looks like the one you sent the link for....also what about the second doll in the photo
Hi mike you can email me at Manikin1234@aol.com more photo's :-)
Hard to see but by hair I believe that other one is Addy a courageous girl from 1864, determined to be free during the Civil War . Is he darker and also Addy has more straight eyebrows

The size of font on your dolls is common to find on them up till Mattel took over and they became more uniform . So not uncommon to find different size lettering on marking on neck .
Mike from your further photo's your's are pre mattel American Girls
older dolls have "© Pleasant Co" and some have the year. Recently, most dolls say "© American Girl, LLC"; this is dependent on when the face mold was created, not necessarily when the doll debuted.
Body shades differ slightly from factory ,not uncommon. The coarser hair on one tells me although she looks like Josefina she has to be Addy . Their bodies are correct and do NOT cut neck strings collectors want them left long .
Your mystery is solved . 2 American girl dolls by Pleasant Co. Josephina appears to have on original part of her outfit ,she is missing the skirt . Addy's dress I don't think is original to her but they contined to make clothes for all these dolls for a long period . It would have a tag in it though .
Dear Manikin,
I am having a hard time sending you a comment. I hope you get this. I posted a close up of the Spanish or Mexican doll, as you requested, but I haven't heard from you regarding the dolls origins. Thank you, Helen (Elena49)
Thank so much....
