Rare solid gold antique Waltham Model #1899. "Riverside Maximus" in amazing condition -- one of the finest watches that Waltham ever made. #16 size three-quarter plate nickel-finished lever movement, 23 jewels, bi-metallic compensation balance, flawless white enamel double sunk dial, Arabic numerals, outer red Arabic five minute divisions, sunken subsidiary seconds, dial and movement signed, 51mm diameter. It is a stem wind and pendant set, is adjusted to temperature and five positions.
Because it is pendant set instead of lever set, it wouldn't have been approved for use on all railroads at the time it was made, but it was actually approved for use on a number of railroads including the Florida East Coast Railroad. The damaskeening on the movement is stunning! The watch is housed in a nicely engraved 9K solid gold case. The serial number is 12072720, which dates it to about 1903.
The damaskeening is beautiful! Very nice pocket watch.
Love this!! I have a 21 jewel Crescent Street.... This is much nicer! Thanks for sharing it and welcome to the board!
