it is a press of judd & detweiler, inc., copy righted by cream of wheat in 1909, and was done by denman fink in 1906, i cant find anything on it when i looked it up but maybe someone will know something.
Looked at the site given & don't see anything racist about it. Just plain advertising strategy. Why does everything like this have to be seen in the racist eye? Repeat, just plain advertising.
I am glad you don't see it as racist. It shouldn't be. I love the ad myself because the little boy is drawn realistically and not exaggerated. Unfortunately, blacks eating watermelon is a long standing stereotype that presented us negatively and I am guessing lazy in the field? Not sure. The irony is that on top of it being tasty, it was very hydrating for slaves, especially those who worked in the field. They ate it for a reason. But since the obsession with eating was not understood, it was mocked and made fun of. Anyway, my two cents.
