Can anyone tell me what I have?? On all of the hinges it says pat OCT 77. My hubby wants to sell it to a neighbor for $75 but I think I would like to restore it. Any tips on do it yourself restoration or should it be done by a professional???
There are several members that can help you with restoration tips. Check out some posts/comments by trunkman. He gave us quite a bit of help in restoring this one of ours. http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/62627-my-trunk-that-needed-help-got-it-trunk
I love the fact yours still has it's 'innards' in such great shape! Thanks for sharing it.
Nice trunk! It would be beautiful restored. I can't tell from the photos what the outside is covered in? The inside is particularly nice and it's unusual to find one in such good condition. It would be worth preserving the interior. I would gently clean it and then apply a spray on lacquer. The metalwork on the outside looks like it would have been a higher end trunk, but I will let trunkman answer that. He's the expert. Enjoy!
Thanks for the replies! The outside feels like leather but is worn in several places. I love the picture on the right of the little girl playing a tamborine!
That is a fabulous trunk -- it would look wonderful restored!!! Thanks for letting us have a look....
Myoldkyhome, just now catching you here. You seem to be knowledgeable but modest. In the Lexington area? I get up there once in awhile & would love to see your collection & workshop. Aserdy, these are ambitious projects but you will be proud of the results. That pride is often worth more than the money.
