I have had a small, but nicely shaped 4.25" wide by 4.5" tall Loetz rusticana vase with a cut and polished rim for several years, and wanted to upgrade my example of the rusticana decor. I just found a nice rusticana bowl (which is often seen in a 4" diameter size) in a larger 6.5" diameter size, with a fire-polished rim and corresponding ground pontil on the bottom. It has a really nice blue iridescence to it, and I am very pleased with it - the combination of shape and size feel perfect for the vase.

The person I bought it from also included another Loetz rusticana vase in our transaction, which I find to be very interesting. It is a small vase, 4.75" tall x 2.75" wide, with a cut and polished rim, but is the first rusticana that I have seen in person with a glossy, rather than matte finish. Its iridescence is raspberry, rather than blue as in the other two. I thought it would be nice to show all three together to illustrate how much the decor can vary from vase to vase, even when in the same 'Creta Glatt' color range. By the way, the large 6.5" bowl is surprisingly heavy for its size.

I wanted to add that based on some more research, I believe the smallest vase is production #1259, 1904.

Hi Jay, I saw your vase last night while browsing CW, and I love it - what a great form. I always like the gourd-shaped vases. What a great piece for your first Loetz!

They all say it's a very simple decor, but I DO love Creta Rusticana vases and bowls!

Hi austrohungaro, I know what you mean; it is considered a 'common' decor, but it has such a beautiful look - I keep going to look at my large bowl on the mantle, and it has such a beautiful soft blue glow to it. :)
