There is a 51 in ''The Evolution of the bicycle'' volume 2. The paint on it was a little different, but it could be a year newer or older. Yours looks correct . Very nice.

Thanks for the comment, I saw that bike but I think it has been restored and the gold tank and carrier I've been told are the wrong colors. Most people I've contacted have said this is a rare bike, the cast metal manifolds were deleted after a few months of production and replaced with decals. The bike was sold by Sears and was never in their catalog.

Very nice bike! Love that "beehive" springer. I know these where sold by Sears but I believe they were made by Murray.

I've seen the bike a couple of times on "American Pickers". Frank bought one in Illinois, so it must be worth something.

Thanks, The one Frank bought had the decal manifold and not the metal ones, thanks

THis bicycle is not from 1950. The story of the cast metal headers being "deleted and replaced with decals" is a myth. No idea where this has come from. The exhaust manifold graphic and castings were merely a theme of J.C. Higgins bicycles for a few years and there were numerous, numerous versions/variations on this same theme- many of which ran concurrently. They didn't stop one and replace it with the other. The reason people THINK these bicycles are rare is because they are not shown in the mail order catalogues. There were many of these bicycles made and for at least two years- not a few months. There were at least two different models of this bicycle with different paint jobs and graphics.
