Everyone has their own way of displaying their collection and depending on what one collects, determines what way they may display it.

The challenging thing about collecting shakers is that because they are small, you tend to collect a large amount opposed to, let’s say, water pitchers.
Many shakers collectors end up building floor to ceiling cases that may only be 4 inches deep or so. This allows one to see each shaker clearly and not stacking them in a case too deeply thus loosing so many in the crowd.
However, you need a lot of wall space to do this. Living in a Queen Anne Victorian built in 1875, the rooms can be small with lots of windows, even though the ceilings are over 9 foot high. So I’m kind of forced to use old general store cabinets to house much of my collection.

I was fortunate to find the above pictured (Left) custom cabinet that was, so Im told, used for a small shaker collection in an antique shop in my travels a few years ago. It is mounted on the wall and has a double glass door.
The rest of my collection are in large china type cabinets (Next) and on top of tables (Next), I also used an old thread cabinet with glass front drawers to display some shakers (Right).

In total 11 different cabinets of different sizes are used, some small and some large. So a simple small collectible can be quite a challenge to display.

Would you like my little salt shaker I posted to add to your collection, its looking so lonely surrounded by glass. I won't be offended if you'd rather not, i see space could be a problem:)
Its just that i was so moved by JayHow sending me a gift i thought it would be nice to do the same. If you'd like it let me know.

A-I-N.... What a fabulous post. I always love to see how collectors display their collections. And how wonderful that you live in a building from 1800s...

Thanks so much, I do a lot of searching and effort into this stuff. I do enjoy it though and have a lot of fun. Most shaker collectors dont seem to share their collections outside of other shaker collectors. That does not seem to make a lot of sense to me.
On the windows, yes they are big too.
