The 12x16 oil painting is possibly by David Pelbam. It looks so similar to others I have found on-line, but I have not yet seen this Irishman (German?) with a pipe. Plus, the signature seems to be a bit different from others I've come across....I have been searching and searching for accurate information and am fascinated by all the possible stories about David Pelbam. Is he a real artist, painting self-portraits? Or, were all the paintings 'mass-painted' for a furniture store?
Please let me know what you think and if you have any information on it. Thank you.
Hello, strangely I came across a painting of an oil winter landscape (I live in Vosges France) with exactly the same signature as on your painting, it reads Pelbam too to me but couldn't find a matching signature on the internet, until I saw yours ... if you like I can post you my painting and the signature.
Yes, please post a picture of your painting! I wish there was more information about the artist. Thanks!
Hello sorry ... it slipped my attention, unfortunately can't post any photo's here, so I made my personal Icon the signature found on my painting... As you notice it is the same as yours. My painting is a winter landscape typical Vosgien, near Alsace, Swiss, Black Forest... When I don't forget I'll switch my icon into the painting one of the nxt days , it is really a very nice one... Greetz from Vosges, France.
Thank you for posting! The signatures do indeed look the same. My grandmother had this picture for years in Texas (USA), I wish I knew its origin. Very interesting to hear of a landscape painting from Europe. David Pelbam (whose painting style my painting seems to resemble) is thought to be an American artist from Rhode Island.
I've had a look at David Pelbam's paintings and yours is completely in line with his work even though I am still confused about the signature, which is clearly different from the usual ones, however in my search yesterday, I came across a painting with again the same signature which appears on our paintings, hereby I give you the link https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/david-pelbam-sea-captain-canvas-1802947192
Again a sea captain, his main subject , portrets. So we are not the only ones with this signature which is a bit of a relief... My painting is completely different , can't find any landscapes by him. I could be mistaken as of the origin, naturally I assumed because I bought it here in Vosges France, the farmhouse with thatch roof being typical vosgien, but maybe it is not local at all... The mystery continues... :-)
