I have 4 of these chairs with a matching small barrel table. All are heavily carved solid wood. A family member stationed in the Far East brought them back from China in the 70s. Can anyone tell me more?

Never seen them marketed as Chinie, but this was considered Egyptian style & popular in the 60's. They were made of good hardwood & comfortable if curved right.
Wow, never seen any from China. Can you post some photos of the whole set, I would love to see the barrel table? I'm a sucker for this design! Love it!
Tom, I saw one of these not long ago & thought about buying. The ones with the right curves are very comfortable & might be nice for my gallery(porch) area where we eat usually. These are still not uncommon on the European market.
I have a marble chess set with this style chairs & stand for the chess set. It was made in Italy back in 70's, but I bought in Germany. The barrel table listed, leaves me curious. =)
Your chair looks like a Savonarola chair which was named after a Dominican monk named Girolamo Savonarola who fought the Florentine Medici family. You might want to try searching either the Met or the Victoria and Albert museums websites. Both museums have a large furniture collections. Good luck!
Thanks for the comments. These are definitely Chinese - came from China and have dragons and oriental iconic carvings. Will check the museums - great tip.
