The top grey chevron is a Chief Gunner's mate, note the eagle faces right for upper deck seamen's during ww2. the bottom are Mineman first class chevrons for white and dress blue's. note a mineman is a upper deck rating, but these chevron's are post WW2 when all rating's were changed to eagle facing left.

During ww2 there were two different styles of rating badges. The upper deck badge for 3rd class and up to chief had the eagle facing right and worn on the right sleeve. "upper deck rating were Boatswain's mate,fire control, Gunner's mate, Mineman, Quartermaster, Signalman, Torpedroman and Turret Captain. Lower deck rating was worn on the left sleeve with the eagle facing left. In 1948 the right rate arm rating was eliminated. In 1947 there were seven types of petty officer rating badges, gold, silver,blue, white, gray, khaki, and green.
