1985 - John F. Kennedy - Medal

This is a .999 silver-plated medal issued in 1985 to commemorate the John F. Kennedy Presidency. This was issued on the 25th Anniversary of his becoming elected to the Office of President in 1960, contrary to other medals that are usually issued to commemorate his death. The obverse features Kennedy's bust facing left, the reverse features the U.S. Capitol Building Dome surrounded by 50 stars. This medal was issued by the Boston Mint, which is a private company not affiliated with the U.S. Government. It measures 1 1/2" in diameter. Base metal under the silver plating is probably a copper-nickel alloy or brass.
** Two points - #1) Note the doubled ear on the obverse - not a mistrike, but rather a badly engraved die. - #2) Note the damage to the reverse (spotting) caused by the acid in the 2x2 holders plastic window - this is the main reason I would never use a 2x2 cardboard coin holder for storage of my "good" coins.
