I was recently able to upgrade my 1944 "Thirst knows no season" thermo through (what else) an eBay BIN deal for right around 60% value shown for an EX example in the earlycoke.com price guide.
This masonite sign is often found with broken corners because of the less durable material. Tin was not as much available for signs during this period because metals were needed for the war effort. The glass thermometer was absent from this one, so I replaced it from my lesser grade previous sign.
An interesting detail I discovered while researching this piece: The Coca-Cola thermometers were manufactured with varying temperature scales for sale in different markets depending on climate.
Upgrading is an enjoyable aspect of collecting. I've never felt bad about buying a rough piece that I really like, because I know there may be a future opportunity to buy one in better condition. And when that happens, it can be a lot of fun!
Nicely upgraded my friend, another killer B-I-N by the King of B-I-N's!!!
It looks brand new!!
Thank you Bernie. It has a few small scratches and small dings around the edges, but overall excellent condition (maybe a little better ;0). As you know, I do love the BIN deals. I've found them to be a great way to build a collection while avoiding the frustrations/high cost of participating in a lot of bid auctions. I do appreciate the kind words. Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving next week.
Thanks Michael for the good vibes.
Congrats on the BIN, great looking signage :-))
Thanks Kerry!
