** Five riverboats, representing five different regions of the United States, were featured on a set of 32-cent commemorative stamps issued by the U.S. Postal Service. These riverboat stamps were the first U.S. commemoratives ever issued totally in self-adhesive format. This is the "Sylvan Dell", representing the East River / Delaware River region. It was built in New York in 1872 and was reputed to be faster than any other boat of comparable size in New York waters. In 1889, it hit a submerged obstruction and sank in midchannel.
