Hello, This is on wood, weighs almost 5 lbs. 49" X 12". Buddhist, but I do not know what it says! Any help appreciated! Paid $7.99 Shipping was $12.00 and handling $2.00 $22.00 total, I like it! painted great and swastikas like symbols on bottom, any history or reading appreciated!! Don

It is a bamboo book they were a special, but widely-used form of book used before the Han Dynasty when paper was (reinvented) invented duiring late East Han Dynasty by a eunuch named Cai Lun. Paper was unpopular due to the high cost at the time. Hence, for the sake of economy and practicality, bamboo-made books were still the mainstream at that time.
This being a modern reproduction, of course.

I thought bamboo also but very heavy and looks like wood grain? Thanks! I will take a closer look!

Hello Lovely, hmmmm...so many options here. There are any books of Buddha. There are parables...basically stories or learning...I read them to my kiddos...which I am guessing (guessing!) here. Think it looks like Chinese writing but...

The symbol has been used by many cultures for thousands of years, but took on a darker tone in the right hand version adopted by the Nazi Party in the 1920's.
