Plate from a Midwest estate sale. 10 inch diameter, 6 inch portrait area. Heavy plate with thick edge. Stands 1 inch tall. Has no markings on the back and appears to be roughly thrown and fired. No idea who the picture is of (Christopher Columbus?). Looks Italian and May have been picked up on a European trip in the 1950s. Help! There were many things in the house and this was but one.
I'd say Columbus. Looks Italian.
Has anyone seen a plate like this before? It sits about 1 inch off the table in height.
The decorative elements to the border look like those of the Raffaelleco pattern associated with the town of Deruta, Italy.

Google "deruta ceramiche" and go to the images and you will see what I mean.
With no made in Italy mark I think it would be nineteenth century and might date to 1892. But that's just a guess. Walter sometimes comments on CW. He is a fountain of information.
