That's an 18 size Waltham model 1883 from 1889... The NAWCC website has this watch listed as having 15 jewels. I've never seen this 4157 mark before?? Cool!!

I believe it is a standard 15 jewel movement that someone altered to try to make it look like 23 jewels. They added a 4 in front of the 15 and a 7 at the end to make it look like a serial number and then stamped it with a 23.

Yep, I didn't research hard enough. I was a fool for buying it, thinking I it was a quality 23 jewel movement. After paying for it, the seller was buttering me up, making me think I have purchased a very valuable watch. Probably never get my investment back , now that it is defaced with false engraving all over the plates :(

That's exactly what I'm thinking as well. The engraving even looks a little clunky... Still a pretty watch. Carry it and enjoy it as a watch. Looks like it's running.

I took the balance wheel/hairspring out, and used the case of this watch, to fix a 1899 production model 1883 18s 15j movement.
When I run across some parts and case, I might put this one back together.
